This is a community driven site to raise awareness of the issues arising from the cut-through traffic along Schaeffer and Checker Rd in Long Grove, IL
Long Grove residents wish to enjoy the abundant open-space, wildlife and rural setting and preserve the character of the community by reducing the cut-through traffic.
Core Issues
This represents a tremendous amount of non resident traffic cutting-through during the rush hours violating speed limits and stop signs, jeopardizing our safety, increasing road wear, limiting safe use of our neighborhood roads for a healthy lifestyle, and threatening wildlife.
Bus Safety
Excessive speeds and numerous failures to stop at red flashing lights pose a great safety risk to children riding buses.
Wildlife
With the abundant dense forest along the route, it is often difficult to see wildlife attempting to cross.
Cyclists
During warm weather, our roads welcome cyclists from our neighborhood. Cut-through traffic makes it difficult for cyclists to safely use our roads.
Pedestrians
With the lack of sidewalks, our residents must step off the road for vehicles to pass.
Road Longevity
The additional vehicle traffic reduces road longevity. These local streets were not designed to handle such volumes of traffic. The cost to repair and maintain these streets will be paid by taxpayers.
